RAM Concept
Structural analysis and design of slabs
The structural analysis and design of traditionally reinforced and post-tensioned concrete floors, mats and rafts can be done using the software program for RAM Concept. A vast range of floor systems, including post-tensioned, reinforced concrete and hybrid systems, elevated slabs and mat/raft foundations, one-way and two-way slabs, beams and joist systems, may be designed thanks to RAM Concept's sophisticated feature set.
In the past, the great majority of concrete floors have been examined by first approximating a section of the slab as a frame (or design strip), and then utilizing typical frame or moment distribution analysis approaches to assess the frame/strip. This methodology has two drawbacks. Designing with the analytical results may not even meet the requirements for equilibrium in the real structure when dealing with irregular structures, as the approximation of the real structure into a frame model may be wildly wrong. The second drawback is that the frame analysis only approximates the slab/column interaction and offers no insight into the forces distributed across the design strip, even in regular systems with regular loadings.
With RAM Concept, an engineer can use a finite element model of the complete slab to create post-tensioned and reinforced concrete slabs. RAM Concept is far more accurate than frame models at predicting the elastic behavior of a slab. Furthermore, all equilibriums in the analysis are guaranteed to be satisfied by the finite element approach.
